Marriage records/ Marriage Certificates are one of the most accessed documents in most states. IL marriage records are also constantly being requested by the residents of Illinois since it was made open to the public after the Freedom of Information act has been implemented by the state.
The residents of the Illinois request it for a number of reasons. One is to use it for research on the family tree. The state office in Illinois only releases documents which have been registered since January 1962. A $5 processing fee has to be paid in order for the request to be granted and to proceed with the search. One should also indicate their relation to the name on the file since the document is only given to the bride or the groom and their immediate families. One should give the office 10 business days to process the said request.

However, the said office cannot give copies of the said file because they only assist by verifying the information needed to conduct the search. The document can only be requested at the office of the county clerk where the marriage took place and was registered. It is recommended to send a mail order in order to have the request prioritized.
